Unpublished autograph letter signed Paris n. d. [after 1884] | 13 x 20.5 cm | one leaf
Autograph letter signed by the painter Claude Monet, 2 pages on one sheet, closely written, watermarked “Lacroix Frères”.
Traces of folding and a small tear to lower central fold, not serious.
The famous impressionist painter recalls a meeting with his correspondent during a trip to Menton and tries to establish contact in Paris. After an initial visit with Auguste Renoir in December of the previous year, Monet set out alone on the road to the South in 1884, staying in Bordighera and Menton. These few weeks in this colorful oasis produced magnificent paintings (La route rouge près de Menton, 1884, private collection, Menton vu du Cap Martin, 1884, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA). He returned there several times in the 1880s and '90s.
A handsome signature by Monet to the bottom of the letter.
