Roland Barthes writes in this letter that he wishes to devote himself to his work for the CNRS because he has difficulties in maintaining his "double or triple life". He announces to the recipient that he will give a lecture next year in Vezelay on the theme of Realism and Literature. This conference took place in 1956 and Robbe-Grillet invited by Barthes.
1955 is the year in which Barthes begins the writing of Mythologies which appear at Seuil in 1957.
