Suite of eleven original woodcuts by Albert Gleizes, printed in red on Japon paper, created to accompany the deluxe issue limited to thirty copies on Japon of Au pays du mufle by Tailhade.

Wood engraving lends itself admirably to the plastic demands of Cubism: its large, flat colour planes, and the discipline of gesture it imposes on the engraver find a natural echo in the angular forms and geometrisation of volumes then sought by Albert Gleizes. Illustrating Laurent Tailhade's text in 1920 with eleven original woodcuts, one of the very theorists of the movement thus transposed his pictorial vocabulary into the medium of the wood engraving, making Au pays du mufle one of the most accomplished examples of the application of Cubism to book illustration.
