First edition illustrated with 5 plates and three maps, two of which are folding. Bradel binding in full brown cloth, spine with five false raised bands decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, gilt date at foot. Endpapers and preliminary leaves browned, scattered worming and some pale dampstains. Trace of an old label on the title page. One of the first complete descriptions of the Azores Islands, by the Irish writer Thomas Ashe who stayed there on his return from South America. The work consists of 44 letters intended for Francis Rawdon-Hastings, Governor General of India, with the aim of convincing him, as the title indicates, to obtain the Azores.
