Georgius Fabricius (1516-1571), born in Chemnitz, was an influential scholar and humanist of his time, an educator, but above all a renowned philologist. He is credited with editions of ancient poets and studies on Antiquity (which he studied in Italy), particularly on Rome, which are highly sought after.
