First edition, illustrated with a frontispiece by Bleyswyk, two title vignettes and 4 handsome portraits by the same. Title pages in red and black. Contemporary full brown sheep bindings. Raised band spines elaborately gilt in compartments. Red morocco title and volume labels. Upper joint of volume I split at head. Lower joint split at foot in volume I with lack in the last compartment. Headcap of volume I fragile. Upper joint of volume II cracked at head. Corners slightly bumped. A reasonably good copy. A collection of memoirs or critiques on published books, some recent, others less so. Notable are several memoirs on Guillaume Postel (philologist, orientalist and Kabbalist), one on Merlin Coccaï and his macaronic verses, another on Bonnefons' Pancharis, on the works of Sarrasin, several on the Florentine Poggio, another on the Martin Guerre affair and Jean Coras, in addition to the catalogue of all the republics in the collection of small republics published by Elzevier, and the treatises that can be added to it.
