New edition, ornamented with a frontispiece engraved by L. Cars after C. Natoire, with headpieces, tailpieces and initials, engraved by Nicolas Cochin and L. Cars after Natoire and Bouché, all in first printing. The text is set within a handsome red border and printed on deluxe paper, with careful typography. Contemporary full blonde calf binding. Spine with five raised bands richly decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, as well as a blonde morocco title label. Triple gilt fillet border on boards. Fine gilt dentelle border on pastedowns. All edges gilt. Joints of upper board slightly cracked at head and foot and rubbed. Handsome copy with full margins preserved in an elegant contemporary binding. The historical remarks are by Claude Brossette, from the 1729 edition; they have been augmented with notes by Lenglet-Dufresnoy.
