New edition, ornamented with a frontispiece engraved by L. Cars after C. Natoire, with head- and tailpieces and initial letters, engraved by Nicolas Cochin and L. Cars after Natoire and Bouché, all in first printing. The text is set within a beautiful red frame and printed on deluxe paper, with careful typography. Contemporary full blonde calf binding with scale pattern. Spine with five raised bands richly decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, and a blonde morocco title label. Triple gilt fillet framing the covers. Fine gilt dentelle framing the doublures. All edges marbled. Foot headcap partially damaged with half missing, exposing the partially unstitched headband. Two corners slightly bumped. Handsome full-margined copy preserved in an elegant contemporary binding. The historical remarks are by Claude Brossette, from the 1729 edition; they have been expanded with notes by Lenglet-Dufresnoy.
