The first edition dates from 1662, with the date 1663 on the title page. It was published again in 1674 then in 1679. Title page with sphere. Elzevir edition. Rare. Full burgundy morocco binding early 20th century Jansenist style. Date at foot. Decorative gilt board-edges. 18th-century endpapers preserved. Light dampstain to the last two leaves. Very handsome copy. L'étourdi is considered one of Molière's first true plays, in which he creates for the first time the character of Mascarille. He first performed it in Lyon in 1653, then in Paris in 1658, and only obtained a privilege to have it printed in 1660.
