First edition. Contemporary full brown sheep binding. Decorated raised band spine. Beige title label. Damage with losses to the three headcaps. The second volume is in a noticeably different binding, with a red morocco title label and a beige volume label. Paper sometimes browned and spotted. Although it is charged with numerous inaccuracies (but certain points of Suger's biography are still debated), like all studies conducted by Gervaise, this history of Abbot Suger teems with interesting details and anecdotes. Moreover the preliminary pieces contain 4 dissertations on the foundation of the abbey of Saint Denis, the death of Abbot Suger, on Suger's works, and on the heresy of investitures. Few works deal with the life of Suger, this history therefore remains important. Stamps on the title pages: Bibliothèque de Poitiers.
