New edition, after the first published in 1752. Title pages in red and black. Posthumous edition prepared by Abbé Maillet. Armorial copy with the coat of arms of Louis Guillaume Chuberé, gules three roses argent, honorary counselor to Parliament whose library would be the subject of a publication. Contemporary full speckled sheep bindings. Decorated smooth spines. Havana morocco title labels and green morocco volume labels. Triple fillet frames on boards. Small crack at head of upper joint of volumes I and III. Rubbing. Fine copy. The Count d'Avaux was French ambassador to Holland, the work recounts in detail, in a diplomatic and rather neutral manner, the relations between France and Holland since the Peace of Nijmegen. The narrative is written in first person, thus giving the impression of authentic memoirs.
