First edition, illustrated with 3 engraved titles with borders and figures, 3 fine frontispieces and one figure repeating a frontispiece, vignettes and tailpieces designed by Moreau le jeune and engraved by Monnet, Simonon, Launay and Duclos, including one vignette with a camera obscura. Armorial copy of President Charles de Brosses, celebrated magistrate and writer well known for his Lettres d'Italie. Azure, three sheaves of wheat (or brushes) or, tied gules. Contemporary full marbled brown sheep binding. Smooth spine richly decorated. Red morocco title label, garnet morocco volume label. Arms stamped on covers. Headcap of volume III partly split. Lacking at foot of volume III. Traces of rubbing. Occasional foxing on the first leaves of volumes I and III. Fine copy. Gilt seal-form bookplate: Henri Bachimon (Henri Bresles). Born Bachimon, Henri Bresles (1864-1924) was a French operetta composer and chansonnier. Collection of songs, which were composed for "festivities and social events" (anniversaries, births, marriages, love, old age, drunkenness...) Treating frivolous and light subjects or current events of this second half of the 18th century. The texts are accompanied by airs and refrains in musical notation.
