Handsome esteemed edition. The first edition of this work, which was abundantly reprinted, dates from 1747. Mme de Graffigny stands, behind Zilia's letters (a young Peruvian exiled in France), against the hypocrisy of morals and the inequality of women. The Lettres d'une péruvienne is certainly one of the first feminist novels. The style follows the sentimental vein that would flourish at the end of the 18th century.

Her poetry reflects the gallant spirit of the 17th century, but also its morality; the volumes bringing together songs, epistles, idylls, tragedies and occasional pieces. She was a précieuse, moving in the circle of Luxembourg with the Duchess of Montpensier and in a circle of libertines. The edition of her Poësies contributed greatly to her contemporary literary fame.
