Raymond Abellio responds to his correspondent and informs him about the unavailability of his work La Bible, document chiffré and the difficulty of obtaining it: "... j'ai demandé à l'éditeur de ne pas le rééditer dans sa forme initiale, que j'estime (par endroits) insuffisamment élaborée. Je ne dispose malheureusement que d'un seul exemplaire sur lequel je travaille en ce moment car une édition refondue et augmentée doit paraître d'ici 18 mois à 2 ans, dans le nouveau titre Théorie des nombres bibliques." (... I asked the publisher not to reissue it in its initial form, which I consider (in places) insufficiently developed. Unfortunately I only have one copy on which I am currently working as a revised and expanded edition is to appear within 18 months to 2 years, under the new title Biblical Number Theory.)

The rare French first edition, following the first published in London, in Latin, in 1758.
Contemporary full blonde calf binding, marbled and glazed, smooth spine decorated with grotesque ornaments, red morocco title label, upper joint cracked at head for 8 cm, lower joint cracked at head and foot.
Although this work is the most famous by its author, due to its title which several churches have taken as their symbolic name, it is not the first of its kind and is actually a condensed version of the Arcana Coelestia, but whereas the Arcana is an exegesis of Genesis, The New Jerusalem is one of verses from the Apocalypse of Saint John, in which Swedenborg, as in his other works, delivers an ultra-rational vision of metaphysics and spirituality. A renowned scientist, Swedenborg experienced a mystical crisis at the age of 55. God spoke to him and allowed him to communicate with angels: "I am the Lord, Creator and Redeemer; I have chosen you to make known to men the inner and spiritual meaning of the Holy Scriptures. I will dictate to you everything you must write." The author would thus experience several visions which he transcribed in his books. Swedenborg did not break at all with the doctrines of Luther from which he came, but he founded the relationship with God on love, and he gave great importance to angels who are the foundation of the existence of good and evil, and to the soul which is an emanation of divinity. He was quickly considered a universal genius, as evidenced by the considerable influence he had, notably in France on the writers of the Romantic generation, Balzac, who quotes him abundantly and who drew from him nourishment for his theory of desire, Baudelaire, Cazotte and elsewhere in William Blake, Jung... and even in Japan, in the book: The Buddha of the North.
Bookplate. Ernest Chausson stamp. Great composer and autodidact, who died at 40 and left imperishable works particularly in the field of chamber music, in the wake of a French Wagnerism, imbued with profound sorrow and melancholy.

Des études spéciales me permettent de restituer dans ses détails lyriques la tragédie du temps de Périclès & ces restitutions constituent un spectacle d'un éclat nouveau. Veuillez lire la Prométhéide ; en tenant compte qu'elle sera réduite & d'une mythologie simplifiée. Béziers a donné une caricature du mythe titanique, Nîmes donnerait la trilogie du grand Eschyle. Je ne crois que les frais d'acteur aillent jusqu'à dix mille francs. Point de musique, que figurative (flûtes, crotales). J'ai calculé que le décor de Nîmes servirait en jetant des toiles peintes sur ce qui existe, en supprimant les temples du bas par des peintures de rochers. I don't believe the actor's fees would go up to ten thousand francs. No music, except figurative (flutes, crotales). I calculated that the Nîmes setting would serve by throwing painted canvases over what exists, by removing the lower temples with rock paintings. We would need to see each other before my departure. Je n'ai pas voulu dire que j'attribuais neuf mille francs aux interprètes mais à la totalité des frais. Pour les cinq acteurs, je vois mille francs pour Segond, & selon les prix d'Orange, six cents pour chacun des quatre autres, soit Albert Lambert Ferroux (Keth Aour & Zakir Iddin) & les deux mages X X. s'ils sont de la Comédie Française & permettent de dire & d'imprimer que la représentation est donnée par la dite Comédie, sinon les prix baissent de moitié : cela ne ferait donc au maximum que 3400 de cachet. Je tremble en pensant à ce que va faire M. Chambon. Il se peut pour des raisons locales qu'il soit inévitable mais il faut que son plan m'arrive & que je l'étudie & le fasse étudier, car cet homme est cher & ignore la plantation du décor. Mon idée est de faire économiquement, mais d'un autre côté, il y a le côté spectacle que vous m'avez signalé justement comme indispensable. Ce sont les figurants, leurs casques cuirasses & lances qui représentent une assez forte dépense. Incidemment, je vous indique trois détails : 1er emprunter les coulisses de verdure au théâtre municipal. 2e obtenir des clairons de la lyre & des trompettes de l'artillerie qui resteront dans la coulisse, donneraient des sonneries spéciales que je ferai composer. 3e une musique militaire réduite aux bois & également invisible. Enfin, si cela était possible, (je ne le crois pas) des soldats pour figurants guerriers & des enfants d'une école pour les cortèges. Je ne commencerai à négocier les choses c'est à dire à parler ouvertement que lorsque vous me ferez signe. Quand vous viendrez à Paris, faites moi le plaisir de venir dîner ou déjeuner, dîner vaut mieux pour causer, & en toute intimité. It is a matter where one must not innovate, but only follow the ancient texts and monuments. I foresee behind all this the demand for large fees, the fees of Orange & consequently the committee's fright. To counter all this, would you read my four-act tragedy Semiramis. Everything can take place in the hanging gardens, that is to say in your famous set. Madame Segond Weber agrees to play Semiramis, & for the five other roles, I would have people from the Comédie Française. This would cost half as much as Prométhéide. First edition of Numa (1786) and of Estelle (1784), published at the same time as the 12mo edition. Statement of third edition for Galatée, and first 8vo edition. Estelle bears the imprint: De l'imprimerie de Monsieur. 1788. One frontispiece by Queverdo for Numa Pompilius. The illustrations by Moreau le Jeune announced on the verso of the title page never appeared, but Queverdo's illustrations would be found in the second edition. Printed on Vellum.
Contemporary full glazed blonde calf bindings signed Bozerian at foot of the Numa volume. Smooth spine decorated with the cipher repeated 4 times of Prince Gabriel Petrovitch Gagarine, fillets and rolls. 2 title-labels for each volume in black morocco. Greek key border frame on boards. Roll on edges and interior. Traces of rubbing to headcaps, borders, joints and corners. Very handsome copies bound by Bozérian with the cipher of one of the most illustrious and ancient Russian families.
Prince Gavrila Petrovitch Gagarine (1745 - 1808) resided two years in Paris with Prince A.B. Kourakine and Count N.P. Chérémetev, upon his return to Russia, he was successively appointed Procurator to the Senate, Chamberlain, then Privy Counsellor and Senator. He was also Minister of Commerce, and member of the Council of the Empire. A great scholar and francophile, Prince Gabriel Gagarine is also known for his involvement in Freemasonry of which he presided over forty Lodges, and for which he wrote several works. Also a knowledgeable Theologian, Gabriel was the friend of the famous Metropolitan of Moscow, Platon. His son, Prince Pavel (Paul) Gavrilovitch Gagarine (1777 - 1850) Commander of the Order of Malta, married Princess Anne Petrovna Lopoukhine (°1777 + 1805), favorite of Emperor Paul I. (cf. Numa is a novel inspired by the life of the second legendary king of Rome, Numa Pompilius is written in an epic style reminiscent of certain 18th-century translations of Homer. Galatée is a paraphrase of Cervantes' eponymous novel; the work contains a preface on Cervantes' works. Estelle attempts to bring back into fashion the 17th-century pastoral novel. The three works show a Florian well-versed in 17th-century literature, who imitates its style and spirit, Florian constantly blending a poetic style with a narrative style.

This publication gives precise details of the rules of the Lodge, its makeup and the rights and duties of each member, in function of their status. This is followed by general and specific dispositions of the Lodge (conditions of admission and voting, affiliation).
A very good and rare copy.
