    Edition illustrated with 78 portraits, not 72 as stated on the title page, engraved by Harding and Voet, after the original paintings. Some minor foxing, ownership inscription in pen on the title page which left a small ink stain to the lower right-hand corner of the same page, slight scuffing to the boards.
    Entirely printed on vellum, complete with the binder's instructions at the beginning and the index table at the end.
    Edition with commentary by Horace Walpole.
    Bound in full Russian red morocco, spine with three raised bands, spine framed in gilt and elaborately decorated with gilt typographic motifs, gilt roulettes at head and foot of spine, slight rubbing to spine-ends...

    Contemporary bindings in full blonde mottled calf, smooth spines decorated with gilt motifs and tools, gilt fillets and dentelles, red morocco title labels, green morocco volume labels, gilt fillets emphasizing the edges, gilt lines on the headcaps, marbled pastedowns and endpapers.
    Joint cracked on the first volume, headcaps of the first two volumes damaged, edges rubbed, traces of a removed bookplate on the first pastedown of the first volume, foxing.

    Illustrated edition with a frontispiece and 6 etchings by J. Chauvet as well as letters, fleurons and tailpieces by Léon Lemaire, one of 10 numbered copies on China paper, the most limited deluxe printing with 10 Japan and after 1 vellum.
    Our copy contains a triple state of the etchings including 1 in bistre and 1 in black.
    Very occasional foxing.
    Handsome copy despite tiny lacks to the upper and lower corners of the boards.

    Factitious collection of several editions by the same publisher at different dates comprising the author's works. The first 4 volumes dated 1762 bring together the tales and miscellaneous works. The 2 volumes numbered 5 and 6 are the Memoirs of the Count of Grammont, dated 1760 and with the same device as on the title pages of the first 4 volumes. The seventh volume contains miscellaneous works dated 1776, the only volume bearing an address and place (Le Jay in Paris).
    Contemporary bindings in full glazed blonde marbled calf. Smooth spines decorated with acorn tools. Red morocco title labels, and black morocco volume labels (that of volume II in green morocco may have changed color)...

    Contemporary full brown calf bindings, smooth spines richly decorated with gilt and blind fillets, as well as a blind typographical motif, gilt dentelle at head and tail, covers decorated with a gilt fillet, blind cornerpieces and a large blind fleuron in the center, Greek key roll framing the pastedowns, all edges gilt.
    Joints slightly rubbed, otherwise a handsome copy.

    Contemporary full blonde calf binding. Spine with five raised bands richly decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons, with a camel morocco title label. Blind fillet and corner fleurons framing the boards. Gilt roll on edges and headcaps. All edges red. Title page lightly browned at outer margin, same for the last leaf. A small corner lack on page 103 of the first part.

    Each tale has its own title page.
    Contemporary full marbled blonde calf binding. Decorated spine with raised bands. Red morocco title and volume labels. Head slightly worn. Rubbing. 2 corners slightly bumped. A good copy.
    Besides being the author of the famous Memoirs of the Count of Grammont, Hamilton wrote several tales that were much appreciated in their time and are usually included in the anthology of 18th-century tales.
