New edition, considered the most beautiful and most correct of the author's complete works. Illustrated with 8 portraits by A. de Saint-Aubin in volume I and 4 figures after Moreau le jeune in volume II. Contemporary full brown calf bindings, smooth spines richly decorated with gilt and blind fillets, as well as a blind typographical motif, gilt dentelle at head and tail, covers decorated with a gilt fillet, blind cornerpieces and a large blind fleuron in the center, Greek key roll framing the pastedowns, all edges gilt. Joints slightly rubbed, otherwise a handsome copy. Antoine Hamilton is primarily the author of the Mémoires du comte de Grammont, which Etiemble (author of the 18th-century anthology in the Pléiade collection and rediscoverer of 18th-century authors like Crébillon fils) considers one of the masterpieces of the period. His tales were also appreciated, including Fleur d'épine and Le bélier. Despite the work accomplished by Etiemble, and the complete rehabilitation of Crébillon fils, Hamilton remains fully to be rediscovered. Cottin-Angar bookplate.
