First edition. Unlettered grey cloth spine, the title of the work has been added, certainly by the dedicatee, in blue ballpoint pen, some angular creases on the boards. Moving autograph inscription dated and signed by Louis Ferrand: "A mon ami Marcovitch Louis, mon frère de chaîne à Buchenwald. Fraternel souvenir des années sombres. 11 septembre 1966. Louis Ferrand matricule 81.106." [To my friend Marcovitch Louis, my chain brother at Buchenwald. Fraternal memory of the dark years. September 11, 1966. Louis Ferrand registration number 81.106.] Communist militant and resistance fighter, Louis Ferrand was arrested on November 1, 1943 and severely tortured to the point of being momentarily paralyzed. He was finally deported to Buchenwald camp on August 22, 1944 where he actively participated in the clandestine resistance, notably by diverting food to feed the children and the weakest of his companions in dreadful misfortune. He also took part in the battles for the liberation of Buchenwald camp on April 11, 1945. Upon his return to France, Louis Ferrand, as one of the principal leaders of the National Federation of Former Deportees and Interned Resistance Fighters and Patriots, was the tireless defender of the rights of his fellow deportees in their struggle to recover their health and live with dignity. Precious and poignant copy.
