Smooth spine decorated with 5 fleurons and roulettes. Black title label. A brown stain on the upper board.Famous anti-French work inspired by Revolutionary terror. Victor Alfieri (1749-1803) was poet, playwright and philosopher, he who was considered the Italian Byron, both champion of Romanticism and steeped in classical culture, revolutionized Italian literature. He came to France around 1788 with the Countess of Albany, his wife; the country he called the land of liberty frightened him with its excesses and revolutionary ardor and he withdrew in 1792 to Florence.
