Lettre autographe adressée à Roger Nimier

Autograph letter signed by Jacques Perret, 20 lines in black ink, addressed to a colleague, probably Roger Nimier, apologizing for being unable to attend a meeting organized by the Arts review.

Jacques Perret had to cancel: "Votre invitation m'avait pourtant touché à temps et à coeur. Je compte sur vous pour assurer à Parinaud que je ne le boude pas" ["Your invitation had indeed reached me both timely and heartfelt. I'm counting on you to assure Parinaud that I'm not sulking"] and shows pessimism for a celebration he was planning to organize: "Les nouvelles concernant les préparatifs de la fête romaine sont mauvaises. Outre ses contrariétés chroniques le matelot a eu de graves ennuis avec son menu. Les murènes qu'il gavait toutes de casques bleus sont toutes crevées..." ["The news concerning the preparations for the Roman feast is bad. Besides his chronic troubles, the sailor has had serious problems with his menu. The moray eels he was force-feeding all with blue helmets have all died..."]
Jacques Perret, royalist writer, fierce supporter of French Algeria and virulently anti-Gaullist, was stripped of his civic rights then in 1963, removed from military medal control despite protests from some of his fellow writers, suspects that his political positions do not favor honorary decorations: "Je trouve qu'on nous a fait signer un manifeste manifestement destiner à torpiller mon ruban." ["I find that they made us sign a manifesto manifestly intended to torpedo my ribbon."]
