First edition published in a small number of copies, with only 10 Holland deluxe copies printed. Bradel binding in full boards covered with marbled paper, smooth spine faded with a very slight lack at head, havana shagreen title-label with minor traces of rubbing, original wrappers preserved, spine partially preserved and mounted on last endpaper, contemporary binding. Our copy is enhanced with an autograph note from the author to an enigmatic correspondent whom he compares to Han d'Islande and to whom he asks where one might meet Victor Hugo. Work illustrated with a frontispiece drawn and engraved by Bracquemond. Rare copy, complete with the publisher's catalogue at rear, virtually free from foxing.
