Partly first edition on ordinary paper. A pleasant copy. Autograph presentation inscription, dated and signed by Julien Gracq to Professor Georges Blin: "... avec le cordial souvenir de son lecteur fidèle et attentif." Georges Blin, a specialist in the works of Baudelaire and Stendhal, was a prominent literary critic and academic. He was among those, including Vladimir Jankélévitch and Jean Wahl, who sat on the Sorbonne committee that examined Emmanuel Lévinas’s doctoral thesis, Totalité et infini. He also served as director of the Jacques Doucet Literary Library of the Universities of Paris (Sorbonne, 1961–1988), held the Chair of Modern French Literature at the Collège de France (1965–1988), and was later Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France.
