Half dark green shagreen binding, spine with five raised bands decorated with gilt floral motifs, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, contemporary binding with the pasted label of Henry Mériot on the front pastedown, bookbinder established in Rochefort since 1878 and friend of Pierre Loti.
Precious autograph inscription signed by Edmond de Goncourt: "A Loti, avec ses amitiés, E. de Goncourt" (To Loti, with his friendship, E. de Goncourt).
