Rare first edition of this first collection of Parnasse contemporain in which the works of thirty-seven poets, for the most part unpublished, are published in 18 issues. Indeed, some of the poems from Charles Baudelaire's Nouvelles fleurs du mal appear for the first time in the fifth issue which is devoted entirely to him: Epigraphe pour un livre condamné - Madrigal triste - L'avertisseur - Le rebelle - Bien loin d'ici - Recueillement - Le gouffre - Les plaintes d'un Icare, as well as some poems published in the Epaves. We also find the first works by Stéphane Mallarmé: “Les fenêtres - Le sonneur - A celle qui est tranquille - Vere novo - L'azur - Les Fleurs - Soupir - A un pauvre” and by Paul Verlaine who had then not published anything in volume: “Vers dorés - Dans les bois - Il bacio - Cauchemar - Sub urbe - Marine - Mon rêve familier”. The volume also contains contributions from Théodore de Banville, Théophile Gautier, José Marié de Heredia, Leconte de Lisle, Anatole France, Louis Ménard, Catulle Mendès, Adam Villiers de l'Isle Adam, Charles Cros, Léon Dierx... Bradel binding in full paper with floral gilt motifs, bronze morocco title piece, preserved wrappers with corner restorations, pastiche binding signed Thomas Boichot.
