First collected and partly first edition, a Service de Presse (advance) copy. Half brown sheep binding, spine with four raised bands underlined with black fillets, marbled paper effect boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, original wrappers and spine preserved. Some minor foxing, a stain on the second cover board preserved, complete with publisher's (advertising) slip. Provenance: from the library of Marcel Augagneur with his curious bookplate pasted on a pastedown. Signed autograph inscription from Marcel Aymé to journalist Marcel Augagneur ("Gringoire" and "L'écho de Paris") who used the pseudonym Marc de Saligny for his writing.
