Pardon my non-french! You are all forgiven, you strange strangers who delight us with your torrents of tongue, your lexicons of legend, your diamonds of idiom. Let us relish the ripeness of your rhetoric, the wild, unheard-of wonders you weave, told in the tongue of Shakespeare, Goethe, Li Po, Dante, Cervantes, Khayyam, Sappho - or in the translations of Gide, Nerval, Judith Gauthier, Rivarol, Oudin, Toussaint, or Renée Vivien!

Our Great ModernsOur Great Moderns
Our Great Moderns

A traversal through the works of those who have been writing, imagining, and creating since the late twentieth century. This selection brings together pieces that mirror the shifts of an era — literary gestures, singular voices, new perspectives. Each book and object has been chosen to capture, through its material presence, the living imprint of our contemporaries.

Pre-first edition of the poems "Le Chat noir", "Langueur", "La Princesse Bérénice", "Pantoum négligé", "Paysage", "Conseil falot", "L'Aube à l'envers", "Un pouacre" and "Madrigal" in the issues of March 26, July 14 and August 18.
These poems appeared one year before their publication in the collection Jadis et naguère.
Le Chat noir is a weekly review created by Rodolphe Salis and Emile Goudeau, published from 1882 to 1897, with the aim of promoting the famous cabaret of the same name, of which it intended to be the record. It published the texts declaimed during the performances. It is, moreover, an important literary and artistic testimony of the end of the 19th century, around bohemia and the Parisian effervescence that characterized it.
