La Revue illustrée is a French publication renowned both for the quality of its illustrations and for its prestigious contributors from 1885 to 1912: Guy de Maupassant, Emile Zola, Maurice Barrès, Anatole France and many others. René Baschet, director of the Revue Illustrée, already prefigures in this publication what the magazine L'Illustration would become, which he would later direct: a fabulous vehicle for the text-image relationship and impressive rigor in the quality of illustration.
