First edition. Full black cloth binding, smooth spine decorated with gilt arabesque tooling, sextuple blind-stamped fillets framing the boards, title and vignette depicting an allegory of victory accompanied by a cherub stamped in gilt at center of front board, corners very slightly worn, headcaps torn, yellow paper pastedowns and endpapers, publisher's binding. Contrary to what the volume's title page announces, this volume contains the issues from late December 1861 to late May 1862. 8-page journal extensively illustrated with wood engravings by the greatest artists of the time. Very handsome copy in its rare publisher's binding.
