First edition printed in 1000 copies on laid paper. No. 870. One frontispiece heightened in colors and 51 illustrations printed in sepia and various tints, of superb execution.
Deluxe publisher's binding in full olive green long-grain morocco signed Durvand at foot of upper cover. Smooth spine richly decorated with 2 compartments with grotesques and the Empress's monogram, and various roulettes. Covers stamped with the Empress's arms at center, with a wide framing frieze with foliage in the corners. Interior frieze composed of Empire motifs. Edges gilt. Spine evenly faded. Traces of rubbing. Narrow leather split along upper joint after headcap, for several cm. Fresh overall but some scattered foxing, particularly on first leaves.
