Original photographic portrait representing Louis Anastay, albumen print in carte-de-visite format mounted on cardboard. Information form partially filled out on the verso containing biographical information as well as the profession ("officer on leave") and the reason for arrest ("Murders. Attempted Murder"). This anthropometric photograph - showing the prison number in the plate - was undoubtedly taken by Alphonse Bertillon's team. Louis Anastay was found guilty of the murder of Baroness Dellard and was executed on April 9, 1892 at Place de la Roquette. This photograph served as a model for the engraved portrait of Anastay in Le Progrès illustré (no. 63 of February 28, 1892). We have only been able to find one other photograph from the same series as ours preserved at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
