Two manuscript leaves before the title relate that the book was composed according to Barbier for the defense of the immunities, privileges and liberties of French ambassadors, which were contested by the papal see. The work was placed on the Index by the Holy See, it also appeared under the title Le bouclier de la France. It is also a history of the disagreements and differences between the Pope and the King of France.
