New French edition, translated by Lejeune, of the Christian apologetics treatise by philosopher and diplomat Hugo Grotius (1583-1645); it is decorated with a vignette on the title page, engraved in copperplate by Duflos after Debrie. Contemporary binding in full tawny calf. Smooth spine decorated à la grotesque, with blonde morocco title label. Gilt fillet framing the boards. Fine gilt roulette framing the turn-ins. All edges gilt. Spine slightly faded with one tiny wormhole. Fine copy from the libraries of A. G. du Plessis and P. de La Morandière, with their engraved bookplates.
