First edition. Contemporary full marbled calf binding. Smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons as well as a red morocco title-label. All edges speckled. Some rubbing and two wormholes on the tail headcap. The collection brings together various pieces in verse published in different periodicals. Guyétand reflects the poetry of the pre-revolutionary period, and his most accomplished work is a defense of Voltaire, Le génie vengé; he was an upright character who claimed his Jura and social origins, it is claimed that he was one of the models for the character created by Stendhal, Julien Sorel, which is undoubtedly his greatest glory. Manuscript note by a modern reader on the verso of the first endpaper. Manuscript gift inscription from 1792 on the title page.
