Smooth green spine decorated with 4 tools and fillets, with frames and roulettes. Red morocco title and volume labels. Roulette frame on boards. Marbled edges. One small abrasion at head of volume 1. Light rubbing to corners and headcaps. Some quires browned, occasional foxing. Fine contemporary binding. This edition contains La mort d'Abel; Le premier navigateur; Daphnis. Gessner was widely appreciated in his time; renovator of the idyllic and pastoral genre, he was in the poetic genre alongside Rousseau and Bernardin de Saint Pierre.
