In 1609 appeared Homicidio de la fidelidad y la defensa del honor, which brought together for the first time in France under an invented Spanish title, various texts and stories extracted from Don Quixote in French in Nicolas Baudoin's translation. These first extracts were assembled over 125 pages, they were expanded in 1715 with a second part formed of new stories. Cervantes's text, but also the names have been changed for the French public then fond of pastorals, and certain passages have been completely forged. Let us recall that the first edition of the Quixote took place in 1605 and its first French translation in 1614. This work therefore directly testifies to an adaptation of the Quixote for the French public, and to a recreation of the original; the work presented in the form of novellas is moreover perfectly coherent. The edition was published again after the success achieved by Filleau de Saint-Martin's new translation at the end of the 17th century, as new adventures, of which this publication bears witness. An indispensable curiosity for all lovers of the knight of the woeful countenance and his reception in France.
