First edition. Rare. Half red percale binding, mid-19th century. Gilt title. Anonymous libel that appeared the day after the Duke of Luynes, favorite of Louis XIII, was made Constable. He is accused of all the evils that have befallen France since Louis XIII, and of serving only his own interests by ruining France and abusing so young a king. Charles d'Albert was made Duke of Luynes in 1619, and was the first of this line. Luynes nevertheless served the king skillfully by enabling him, through his intrigues against Marie de Medici and Concini, to accede to power, but gathering all the king's favors, he was hated by the people and many politicians such as Richelieu.
