New edition, after the original published in 1681; it is known that this book went through many editions. Contemporary full speckled brown calf binding. Spine with five raised bands decorated with gilt compartments and floral motifs, red morocco title label. All edges marbled. Calf somewhat rubbed in places. A small dampstain should be mentioned. Famous work by the jurist, ecclesiastical historian and abbot Claude Fleury. He was appointed by Louis XIV as tutor to the Dukes of Burgundy, Berry and Anjou, as well as confessor to the young Louis XV.
