First edition. The name of the collector to whom all the lots belong is written in manuscript in pen on the title page. Half old red morocco binding ca 1880. Smooth Jansenist spine. Title and date gilt at foot. Rubbing to headcaps. A strip of paper torn from the lower board. A scraped area on the upper board. Good copy. This cabinet of curiosities contains 193 paintings, 15 sculptures, approximately 300 drawings and lots of drawings in portfolios, approximately 180 prints and some illustrated books. The vast collection assembled by Nogaret was actually the subject of 3 public sales of which this one, on February 23, 1778, was the first; there were 2 others in 1780 and 1782. Nogaret was received in 1773 as Treasurer General of finances to M. le Comte d'Artois. Each number bears a figure alongside in pen or grey pencil.
