A lack at the tail of volume 2. Lack along the upper joint at the head of volume 1. Some lacks to the upper board of volume 2 from worming. The boards have suffered alteration from the acid used to create the marbling. In volume 1, slight dampstain to upper margin on some preliminary leaves and the map as well as to upper margin on the last index leaves; in volume 3, to inner margin on the first 4 leaves, and pp. 497 to 500 to upper margin. Paper relatively fresh despite this.

This detailed history of Spain begins with the end of the Gothic domination and the invasion of the Moors in 711 and continues until the death of Ferdinand V in 1516 and the union of Spain into a single monarchy by the reunion of Castile and the kingdom of Aragon. The author did not complete the nine books projected and the last two are from the hands of Pierre Joseph Arthuys and Pierre Brumoy. Following a model proven by historians of the period, the history follows a chronological course. The works of Joseph d'Orléans on revolutions are classics of ancient history.

J'ajoute un de l'AVUI où j'amplifie quelques détails. Merci encore pour ta présence à Sénanque. Nous pensons beaucoup à vous et envoyons nos félicitations pour le petit-fils..." ["Here is the article you asked me for. I'm adding one from l'AVUI where I expand on some details. Thank you again for your presence at Sénanque. We think of you often and send our congratulations for the grandson..."]
An exhibition by Antoni Tàpies had been organized at Sénanque Abbey from July 9 to August 29, 1983.

One of the most famous works on Spain. Archaeologist and politician, Alexandre de Laborde (1773-1842) was sent in 1800 to Lucien Bonaparte's Embassy in Madrid. Charmed by Spain, he would return there a few years later leading a group of some twenty artists (including Jacques Moulinier, Dutailly, François Ligier, Six, Vivant Denon, Bourgeois, Vauzelle) for the creation of the magnificent folio first edition (Voyage pittoresque et historique en Espagne) whose drawings were entrusted to the execution of some thirty engravers. To compose the Itinéraire descriptif de l'Espagne, Laborde surrounded himself with a team of authors, including his friend Chateaubriand. After a historical and geographical introduction and a notice on travels in Spain, the volumes proceed by province. The author describes not only the cities and monuments, but takes interest in commerce, industry, customs...

Travel account in Spain which is characterized by its accuracy and its numerous descriptions of monuments, its study of customs and its extensive interest in jurisprudence, literature, theater, costumes, commerce... According to Quérard the details of this journey "being of perfect fidelity, [they] served as a guide to the draughtsmen employed in the creation of the Voyage pittoresque en Espagne". Richard Ford considers the work as "Admirable work, and one of the most correct..." Moreover, it is one of the first accounts of Andalusia and Granada whose discovery was very late for Europeans. The author enters Spain through Catalonia, visits Barcelona, Morviedre, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Cartagena, Granada, Cadiz, Seville, Toledo, Madrid.
