Binding half morocco chocolate corners signed Mercier. Back with nerves decorated with multiple chambers. Golden head. Scorched blankets. Prints on Japanese paper with very pale foxing marginal sparse. Beautiful copy in a truly superb condition.

First edition printed in fifty copies.
Half cherry red shagreen binding, spine with five raised bands showing rubbing, gilt initials at foot nearly worn away by rubbing, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, minor tears to leading edges, contemporary binding.
Autograph inscription signed by E. Caro.
A discreet and pale marginal dampstain at head of the very last pages of text.
