Superb Jansenist set in black morocco by JP Miguet, a frame of cream-colored calf on the pastedowns of red nubuck, endpapers lined with red nubuck, covers and spine preserved, all edges gilt, half morocco chemise with black stripes, lined with black nubuck, slipcase edged with black morocco and lined with white felt. A fine copy in a handsome binding by JP Miguet.
First edition, one of 77 numbered copies on alfa, the only large paper copies with 45 pur fil. Two small spots and tiny foxings, not serious, on the upper cover, some light foxings on some top edges, internally good.

Very rare autograph dedication signed and dated by the author Jacqueline and Francis Sommer: "... this imperfect book, written in youth and Acknowledged on 01/07/57 from Ernest Hemingway Their friend Paris from 1924 to 1957..." François Sommer was an industrialist and a French resistance, he was also a great hunter very invested in hunting legislation. It certainly met Hemingway on safari in Africa in the 1930s, they were both fond of leisure. Ernest Hemingway also prefaced a book by Francis Sommer, Hunting and game in Africa, published in 1951. Precious sending the author on the French translation of one of his most important works.

Miguet (1985), spine blindtsamped à la chinoise with title, covers mosaiced with a perspective geometric pattern in red, orange and burgundy calf, pastedowns framed in black calf, pastedowns and endpapers in burgundy suede, all edges gilt, covers and spine preserved, half black calf chemise over faint pink wood-paper, slipcase of same edged with black calf. Inscribed by Jean-Paul Sartre to Raymond Gallimard, brother of Gaston and co-owner of Gallimard, the publishers: “à Monsieur Raymond Gallimard en hommage de J.P. Sartre [to Monsieur Raymond Gallimard with best wishes J.P. Sartre].” Provenance: from the library of R. and B. L. (ex-libris). A very good copy of the only collection of Sartre’s short stories, in a magnificent signed binding by Miguet.
