Half emerald green morocco binding with corners ca 1860 signed on endpaper Champs. Smooth spine richly decorated with 6 successive Restoration-style tools. Gilt title and date at foot. Foxing to endpapers, some occasional foxing in the text on an otherwise clean copy. Full-margined copy, untrimmed.
Carteret: "Rare work, masterpiece of Hégésippe Moreau." The author is, despite himself, one of the cursed Romantic poets, who died at age 28 of tuberculosis, just as this first collection that would make him known was being published. 4 novellas or tales followed by poetry.
