Ernst Toller was a pacifist militant, anarchist who participated in establishing the ephemeral Bavarian Council Republic, alongside Gustav Landauer and Erich Mühsam. He would commit suicide in exile in the United States, despairing at the triumph of Nazism, thus preceding Stefan Zweig in death.
Very fine and rare copy.

First edition consisting of an offprint from No. 358 of Cahiers du Sud, one of 100 numbered hors commerce copies on pure thread paper, the only deluxe copies along with a few author's copies.
