    First edition of this treatise on the jurisdictional privileges granted to France by the Porte, a true system of exemptions benefiting French nationals.

    Bound in full black cloth, spines smoothly restored, red morocco lettering-pieces, blind-ruled panels on covers, marbled endpapers and pastedowns.

    In addition to reduced customs duties, those concerned were exempted from most local taxes and subject only to the jurisdiction of their consulates, rather than to Ottoman courts.

    Small areas of discoloration to the covers, some scattered foxing.

    The Doctrine of Right is the first part of the Metaphysics of Morals, the second part which will be entitled Metaphysics of Virtue will be published in 1855; it is announced opposite the title.
    Kant indeed distinguishes the metaphysics of right from that of virtue in his work...

    Scattered foxing.
    Kant indeed distinguishes the metaphysics of law from that of virtue in his work published in 1797 which comprises two major divisions. Jules Barni indeed translated almost all of Kant, and today we essentially use his translation of the Critique of Pure Reason. His work as a translator was decisive in the reception of Kantianism in France.
