One engraved half-title. Text within a border. Gothic typeface. Head- and tailpieces. Not only do the engravings approach perfection, but Kaulbach's animal compositions are among the finest of their kind. The human personification of the animals is indeed highly developed and perfectly staged, one must see the incredible orgy on page 125, the most complete scene of debauchery where intoxication, gluttony and eroticism seize upon the most diverse animals.

One of the first complete works of the author who died in 1833. The same publisher had issued this edition in 55 thin volumes in 1833, here delivering a more compact and manageable version.

Full smooth blonde calf binding, smooth spine decorated with a red morocco label, compartments and gilt geometric motifs, boards framed with a Bacchic roll, gilt roll to edges and headcaps, all edges gilt.
A small lack to foot of joint, corners slightly bumped and edges rubbed.
The work is illustrated with eight plates.

Contemporary full red morocco-grained calf binding. Spine with false raised bands decorated with Restoration tools; cold and hot fillets; roulette at head and foot. Fillet frame on boards and large cold-stamped plate with successively a medallion, a diamond and a rectangle, the last two figures with different gauffrages. Edges gilt. Very handsome copy.

Hans Speidel was the collaborator of Erwin Rommel for the defense of the Channel coast in 1944 and was involved in the attack of 20 July of the same year against Adolf Hitler.

Three corners slightly bumped and very minor and marginal worming to a few leaves, otherwise a handsome copy.

Rare edition of the Latin Protestant bible with St Jerome’s commentaries, specially conceived for the students of the University of Tübingen and more particularly those of the Klosterschulen (or convent schools) in the Duchy of Wurtemberg (this was the first Bible printed in the Duchy).
40 lines per page with repeating initials. One subsidiary title for the Prophets and another for the New Testament, all with printer’s device.
A great many contemporary ink underlinings to text as well as a manuscript list of the prophets on the title of volume two and a summary of the different parts on an endpaper of the first. The typographical elegance of the work is worth...
