Grenoble

Original poster by Andry-Farcy for this exhibition, intended to promote both the hydroelectric industry and tourism in a city whose industrial expansion was then closely bound up with hydroelectric power: the expression "houille blanche" (literally "white coal") referred to the hydraulic energy of waterfalls and watercourses, converted into electrical power.

Sheet slightly yellowed, with traces of folding and a few tears, some of them along the folds.

First edition, illustrated with twenty plates, including one folding plate. Three vignettes and several ornamental initials.

Full basane binding, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, spine with six raised bands decorated with gilt compartments, fleurons and rolls, green morocco title-piece, gilt fillet on the board edges, gilt inner dentelle, stone paper boards. Binding rubbed and scuffed, with abrasions and losses, upper joint split and lower joint partially split at the foot, old traces of mould staining in the margins of several leaves at the beginning of the volume.

Manuscript inscription "Sansac" on the title page.

Illustrated with a photographic portrait of the author as frontispiece, together with three further plates.

Scarce pamphlet issued by the relief committee for political prisoners of the Russian penal camps in Grenoble.

Bound in red half-shagreen, spine with five raised bands framed by gilt dotted fillets and gilt double fillets, marbled paper boards, sprinkled top edge, pastedowns and endpapers in marbled paper, original front wrapper preserved, lower edge and fore-edge uncut.

First quarto edition, complete with all volumes and plates, commonly referred to as the “Third Edition” of the Encyclopédie, and also known as the “Encyclopédie de Pellet” or “Encyclopédie de Lyon” or “Encyclopédie du Lac” by Simon-Nicolas-Henri Linguet.

First edition of this important royal declaration partially reversing the compulsory deportation measures established by the declarations of 8 January and 12 March 1719.

Responding to repeated complaints from colonial governors, the royal government henceforth resolved that only voluntary emigrants should be sent to populate the colonies.

Rare album of original photographs issued in 1886 by the Isère Section of the Club alpin français and devoted to the Taillefer, Trièves, Dévoluy and Vercors regions. Copy no. 55, with the designation "Album n°1" on the title-page and the wet stamp "Club alpin français, section de l'Isère, Grenoble".

Contemporary chocolate-brown half shagreen with corners, spine with raised bands and the same gilt floral tool repeated three times, titles in gilt, red edges. Rubbing to headcaps, edges and corners. Several preliminary leaves provide a printed list of the views, followed by 50 card leaves mounted on guards, each bearing an original...

First edition. Title page in red and black. Title vignette with the arms of Dauphiné flanked by 2 angels. Manuscript inscriptions from the 16th century in the margins of the title page, the one at the bottom of the page recalling the history of Humbert bequeathing Dauphiné to the eldest son of the King of France. On the last leaf, manuscript ex libris, as well as on the verso of the first blank leaf: Je suis l'abbé de Pinet et de Cours ["I am the abbot of Pinet and Cours"].
