Pardon my non-french! You are all forgiven, you strange strangers who delight us with your torrents of tongue, your lexicons of legend, your diamonds of idiom. Let us relish the ripeness of your rhetoric, the wild, unheard-of wonders you weave, told in the tongue of Shakespeare, Goethe, Li Po, Dante, Cervantes, Khayyam, Sappho - or in the translations of Gide, Nerval, Judith Gauthier, Rivarol, Oudin, Toussaint, or Renée Vivien!

Thomas Boichot (1982 - ....)

Born1982
Thomas BOICHOT (1982) is a contemporary bookbinder. Having begun his career at the Ateliers Laurenchet upon completing his bookbinding training, and driven by a passion for bibliophily dating back to his teenage years, he went on to establish the Atelier du Libraire, which he opened in Paris in 2011 with his wife and collaborator, Amandine (Le Bret-Boichot).
Their work focuses on bibliophile volumes, to which they bring traditional bindings on his part, and slipcases or boxes on hers. Working for both booksellers and private collectors alike, they have also had the honour, for more than fifteen years, of binding precious volumes from the rare books reserve of the Bibliothèque Nationale.
Thomas Boichot's work is distinguished by its refinement and restraint, moving away from the criteria of robustness that long prevailed in the craft. One of his foremost priorities remains adapting the appearance of his bindings to the period of the work and its bibliophilic significance.
A devotee of so-called Jansenist bindings — perfectly executed and free of ornamentation — he nonetheless accepts commissions for decorated bindings, often inspired by the Art Deco period or by historic binders he greatly admires, such as J-L Honegger and Roger Devauchelle.
