Half blue morocco with corners, spine with five raised bands decorated with richly ornamented gilt double compartments, traces of rubbing to spine, gilt date at foot, gilt fillets highlighting the marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, bookplate pasted on a pastedown, top edge gilt, corners slightly bumped, binding signed Pagnant.
Foxing, a small angular lack at head of the half-title page on which the inscription appears.

Half mint green shagreen binding, spine slightly faded with four raised bands set with gilt dots decorated with fleurons and double gilt and black fillets, marbled paper boards, front cover with marginal discoloration mark along its full height, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, minor harmless scuffs to corners and edges.
Work illustrated with a portrait of Mathilde de Toscane as frontispiece.
