Original engraving executed in burin by Harman Jansz van Muller.
Proof on watermarked laid paper, early 17th century work. This is an illustration of the Gospel according to Matthew 25.16-17, "Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two."
Latin caption in the lower portion of the engraving.
Artist's signature in the plate.
Character mark "Z" at bottom in the engraving, numbered mark "2" in the lower right corner in the caption area, and manuscript notation "104" in margin in the upper right corner. An old manuscript annotation in Greek characters under the right corner of the plate mark. Watermark visible by transparency. Discreet marginal foxing, a small corner dampstain not affecting the engraving, a tiny corner lack, otherwise very fine condition for this extremely rare engraving of great freshness. The engraver Harman Jansz van Muller worked with Cornelis Cort (also known as Cornelio Fiammingo), and may have been his pupil.
