Charpentier|Paris 1850|11.50 x 18.50 cm|broché sous chemise-étui
Later collected edition, first in part since the author corrected both texts. Rare autograph inscription signed by Prosper Mérimée on half-title. Covers and spine restored and reinforced, marginal repairs to half-title. A light and clear marginal dampstain to head of second page, almost no spotting. With a brown cloth slipcase lined in beige felt.
First edition, published anonymously, purporting to contain letters written to Prosper Mérimée by "his unknown correspondent", one of the rare copies on Holland paper of which no mention is made. Split spine with small losses, copy partly unbound, small corner losses to boards, some foxing.
Imprimerie Impériale|Paris 1857|22.50 x 28 cm|broché
First edition. Work illustrated with figures and 7 engraved plates, some light foxing, one joint reattached, marginal lack to front board. It should be noted that at the end of the volume are the 'Instructions sur la musique' by Bottée de Toulmon. From the collection 'Instructions du comité historique des arts et des monuments'.
The first edition, published in a small number of copies. Two lacks at head and foot of spine, spine and front board slightly and marginally sunned, otherwise handsome copy. Rare.
