Un des principaux artisans de la fusion des deux partis socialistes français qui donnèrent naissance (en 1905), à la S.F.I.O (Section Française de l'Internationale Ouvrière)

    Autograph letter signed by Jean Jaurès, headed by the Chamber of Deputies, politician and journalist Arthur Huc (1854-1932), co-director of the newspaper La Dépêche in which Jean Jaurès publishes weekly articles.
    Jean Jaurès apologizes for the irregularity with which he transmits his articles for a few months. He assures Arthur Huc that, from now on, he will endeavor to return his article on time and that he will send it to him every Tuesday. Then, Jean Jaurès wiped a paragraph concerning articles planned for the following month and the sums relating to their regulations.

Until then portrayed as a dog – caricaturists mocking his aggressiveness – Jean Jaurès is here, for the first time, represented as an elephant. It is a question here of highlighting his potbelly and his pachyderm silhouette, but we can, nevertheless, highlight the great dignity of this massive personality with a high gaze. The water from the Jordan is held on one of his hoofs and alludes to the rumour that he had his son baptised in the scared river, thus acting against his anticlerical policy.
